Mirror Variations is the first album in the collaboration between us and pianist/composer Matti Bye. The collaboration began when we invited Matti to participate in Drone Positions, sparking a strong desire to continue working together. On Mirror Variations, we explore shapes, presence, time, and reflections, taking listeners to different worlds, spaces, and places. In addition to our usual instrumentation, we experiment with various percussion instruments such as vibraphonette, gongs, bowls, and tubular bells. The six tracks on the album completely are improvised, some entirely free-form, while others are based on various compositional and philosophical ideas. The artwork and cover for Mirror Variations were created in collaboration with artists Henning Lindahl and Martina Hoogland Ivanow.
