“The reverb-drenched instruments may sound frayed, but they’re not afraid. Double bass, bass clarinet, and trombone all ease around hidden edges, meandering through dimly lit caverns where sound surrounds consciousness; each player shuffles through thedarkness, each note cautiously reaching for a pinprick of hope ahead.”

- A Closer Listen

Trio Ramberget was formed in early spring 2016 when the three members, with backgrounds in jazz, free improvisational music, and classical music, played together for the first time. During an improvisation, they landed on a simple D major chord, and it was like something happened at that very moment, as if they heard a major chord for the first time. On that day, the trio realized they wanted to play together and form a group, and that their instrumentation had something unique to oer, both for the audience and for themselves.

Since then, Trio Ramberget has released four albums, two EPs, several singles, and their music has been featured in short fillms, documentaries, and dance performances both internationally and in Sweden.

The first self-titled EP, Trio Ramberget, was recorded in the spring of 2016 and presents dark, rugged, and exploratory tones, searching for the sound that later became the trio's hallmark. The next release came in the spring of 2018, the full-length debut Slåttermyren, recorded during a tour in Tornedalen in the summer of 2017. Slåttermyren took the trio another step toward their ambient and drone-like sound, but still with completely freely improvised material, which remains the trio's musical starting point. The music on the album drew great inspiration from the surroundings, nature, stillness, and the people they met during the journey.

The follow-up Musik att somna till (Music to Fall Asleep to) can be described as a "small breakthrough" for Trio Ramberget, and the album received very favorable reviews in Sweden, but it was also the trio's first release to reach a larger audience abroad. The highly respected indie blog A Closer Listen listed Musik att somna till on its Top 20 list of the year's best records, and music from the album was played on stations such as KEXP in Seattle, USA, and Concertzender in the Netherlands. Trio Ramberget's music was compared to ambient and minimalist composers like Brian Eno, Max Richter, and LaMonte Young but was praised for its innovation and use of acoustic instruments in the otherwise often electronic-based ambient genre.

In 2021 and 2022, the next album, 24 Ways, was released. The album was released in three volumes on the Spanish record label Piano & Coee Records. The concept of the album is largely inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's Das Wohltemperierte Klavier; the trio plays through all major and minor keys, from C major to B minor, in 24 preludes and 24 improvisations. The album was named "Ambient Album of the Year" by the music magazine Lira and received very favorable reviews in the international music press.

In the fall of 2023, Drone Positions was released, a collaborative album where Trio Ramberget invited six of their favorite musicians and composers. The six participants were provided with a drone that the trio had recorded earlier in the year and were given free rein to do whatever they wanted with it. The result was a musical journey through freely improvised piano, alternative rock, vibraphone jazz, and abstract cassette loops.

During 2024, Trio Ramberget released the album Mirror Variations together with pianist/composer Matti Bye. The album reached several Top 10-lists of 2024 and the group was once again praised by Swedish music magazine Lira, which named the album “Ambient Album of the Year”. Later in 2025, Trio Ramberget is working together with Bye on a lm score and releasing new music again as a trio.
